EFSA Approves Health Claim for Wrigley Chewing Gum
October 5th 2010The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA; Parma, Italy) has approved a health claim for a sugar-free chewing gum intended to reduce tooth decay. The Article 14 health claim was submitted by Wrigley GmbH (Munich) for a chewing gum that contains xylitol, sorbitol, and mannitol.

Office of Dietary Supplements Publishes New Encyclopedia
October 1st 2010The Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS), a division of the National Institutes of Health, has published the second edition of its Encyclopedia of Dietary Supplements. ODS says the new edition now contains chapters on several botanicals, including Aloe vera, bilberry, bitter orange (Citrus aurantium), black cohosh (Actaea racemosa and Cimicifuga racemosa), kava (Piper methysticum), and saw palmetto (Serenoa repens).
