As of August 2010, Nutraceuticals International LLC (Elmwood Park, NJ) has agreed to a joint venture with Peruvian Nature (Lima, Peru) to expand the market for Peruvian natural ingredients.
“Nutraceuticals International’s extensive knowledge and experience will provide the competitive edge needed to bring these products to the international scene,” says David Romeo, managing director for Nutraceuticals International. “Nutraceuticals International will focus its efforts on Peruvian Nature’s major products, while introducing a few exclusive ingredients that can be found no where else in the world.”
Peruvian Nature operates its own facility to produce dehydrated medicinal herbs, fruits and vegetables. Additionally, it recently completed construction of a new, state of the art sterilization plant. Peruvian Nature is now able to use EPA filtered air injection systems and specially tailored air extraction and powder extraction techniques to grind, sterilize, pulverize and package all types of natural ingredients.
Peruvian Nature’s processes are environmentally friendly. While others may disinfect, pasteurize and sterilize their ingredients with irradiation, ethylene oxide, ozone or UV, Peruvian Nature opts for a more natural process. The company utilizes an organic sterilization system known as “OSS.” OSS was developed to treat almost any kind of medical plant, leaf, wood, bark, grain, cereal, seed, condiment, spice, root, tubercle and other whole, crushed and even powdered vegetables. This steam and vacuum method is recognized around the world as a unique and efficient natural solution. OSS is a 100% natural technique to remove pathogens and reduce the germ charge in natural products. “It is a proprietary bacterial treatment process which helps maintain the efficacy and integrity of the natural product,” says Romeo. The OSS process promotes “the natural way to treat your products” and will easily allow the industry to identify the superior quality of the company’s material compared to everyone else on the marketplace.
Peruvian Nature has earned certifications for BPM, HACCP and SQF 2000 as certified by SGS International (Geneva). It has received plant authorization from DIGESA (General Direction of Environmental Health; Lima, Peru) and certification for organic processes and products by Control Union (Zwolle, Netherlands).
