Marketers are bringing new ingredients-from cactus to hibiscus-to the ready-to-drink arena.
Launched last year, Mo-Tea is said to be the only RTD iced tea brewed from the leaves of the Moringa oleifera plant. Owner Eddie Baez says the company is in 22 stores in New York and developing distribution elsewhere nationally, as well as in Sweden, Bermuda, and Canada. “We are selling 10 times the amount that we sold last year at this time,” he adds. “We expect summer to be crazy-and by crazy, I mean really, really good," especially considering that the brand is about to roll out two new flavors, Spiced Orange and Spiced Mango.
Moringa oleifera’s rich nutritional content-high in antioxidants, vitamin C, potassium, calcium, vitamin A, amino acids, and more-are celebrated in this brewed beverage. “We hand-brew organic Moringa oleifera leaves to create a RTD iced tea like no other,” Baez says. “There are so many benefits to drinking moringa tea. It’s an antioxidant-rich energy- and immune-system booster that does not have caffeine like other teas.”
