Unibar Corp. (Houston, TX) has launched CapsiClear, which the firm says is the first capsanthin ingredient for eye health formulations. CapsiClear is a unique combination of carotenoids sourced from Indian red chilies (Capsicum annum), and standardized to 50% capsanthin. The ingredient works synergistically with zeaxanthin and cryptoxanthin, and like other ingredients, supports the management of macular pigment density and protects the eyes from the effects of blue light.
“Because there is little to no previous research on the benefits of capsanthin, we have spent the last eight years developing and researching this new molecule and the results are astounding” said Sevanti Mehta, president of Unibar, in a press release. “We have a new ingredient formulation that takes a very comprehensive approach to eye health and is a perfect addition to existing products or as a supplement by itself. After the success of our first two studies, we look forward to additional research to further understand CapsiClear’s mechanisms of action and the scope of its benefits.”
According to these studies, says Unibar, capsanthin provides support for photostress recovery to help with eye fatigue, reading speed improvements over white and blue light, and helps reduce intraocular pressure, which is vital for long-term vision health. CapsiClear is manufactured according to ISO, cGMP, HAACP, and PMDA requirements. It also holds self-affirmed GRAS status and is certified kosher, halal, and parve.
