A new silica ingredient helps supplement and food formulators turn liquid, waxy, or oily active ingredients, such as omega-3 fatty acids and botanical extracts, into free-flowing powders. This eases incorporation of these challenging ingredients beyond conventional liquid or softgel capsules and into delivery formats such as hard capsules, tablets, stick packs, and sachets.

The new carrier solution, a patented food-grade silica called Syloid XDP F, was introduced this week at the Vitafoods Europe trade show by W.R. Grace & Co. (Columbia, MD). According to the company, Syloid XDP F “enables manufacturers to achieve improved blend uniformity compared to traditional mixing methods.” It also ensures that handling and downstream processing can be achieved without the need for solvents.
