Gencor (Irvine, CA) is introducing a men’s health ingredient called AGEprost at this year’s SupplySide West in Las Vegas, NV. AGEprost is an herbal extract of the plant Ageratum conyzoides, traditionally used in the Caribbean to support prostate health and urinary problems. AGEprost is a 5-a-reductase inhibitor that’s been shown to relax muscles around the urethra and smooth muscles in the neck of the bladder to help relieve urinary retention and frequency.

In a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study1 conducted with 109 men between the ages of 41 and 76, 250 mg per day of Ageratum conyzoides was found to reduce the symptom severity based on the International Prostate Symptom Score, and decreased both daytime and nighttime urinary frequency for a significant reduction in total urinary frequency.

“We expect AGEprost to be a strong contender in the men’s health marketplace due to its significant positive results shown from the clinical studies,” said Chase Shryoc, VP of business development at Gencor, in a press release. “With several in-vitro and in-vivo studies, AGEprost is a well-researched, self-affirmed GRAS status ingredient with an excellent safety profile.”
