The Institute of Food Technologists opened scholarship applications from their Feeding Tomorrow Fund for food science students.
Helping advance educational opportunities, the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), a nonprofit organization that helps to expand research on food science, recently announced that applications are open for over 90 undergraduate and graduate scholarships1. The scholarships are funded through the organizations’ Feeding Tomorrow Fund. This fund aims to help inspire students who are interested in a career in food science. The press release1 mentioned that. “Since 1985, IFT’s Feeding Tomorrow Fund has awarded more than 2,800 scholarships and over $3 million to food science students.” The Feeding Tomorrow Fund also offers students travel scholarships so that they could attend the IFT FIRST: Annual Event and Expo event which will take place at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, during July 13-16, 20251. Additionally, the Elwood F. Caldwell Graduate Fellowship is accepting submissions from master’s and doctoral program students. The Fellowship grants $25,000 to a student that is in one of these higher education programs that focuses in food science or in research that is targeted towards the global food system.
Nina Steele, IFT Director, Engagement, Inclusion, and Volunteer Development said in the press release, “IFT’s Feeding Tomorrow Fund supports the brightest young minds as we work to solve the biggest challenges in our global food system. We’re proud to offer our scholarship program, which is one of the largest in the nation for food science students, to foster the next generation of leaders who will help address key issues in the global food system and feed our growing population.”
In order to apply for the scholarships, students, “must demonstrate a commitment to the science of food, such as, but not limited to, membership in IFT.” Through IFT membership, student members are able to utilize several resources that may help them with their careers in food science. One of these examples is the ability to take part in the Institute of Food Technologists Student Association (IFTSA), as well as the organization’s competitions. Submissions for these competitions are now open for the 2025 upcoming year. Students who are finalists and winners, are then celebrated at IFT FIRST.
All of IFT’s scholarships share the deadline of February 28, 2025. If you are interested in learning more and applying, please visit the IFT Feeding Tomorrow Fund Scholarships page here2.

Additionally, the plant spreads by underground shoots that out-compete most other plants which means horseradish can become invasive if not maintained.
