Applied Food Sciences (AFS; Austin TX) is launching a new organic, highly water-soluble turmeric (Curcuma longa) extract ingredient. The company says that its PurTurmeric extract can be easily incorporated into a wide range of applications, without imparting unwanted textures or sedimentation.
As turmeric continues to gain popularity among consumers looking for “more complex flavors and new experiences,” AFS says that PurTurmeric can help manufacturers meet the growing demand.
According to AFS, PurTurmeric is extracted using a different method from other presses and juice concentrates. AFS’s extraction technology isolates the curcuminoids in turmeric, providing “excellent flavor and function.” In addition, it says, many other turmeric extract ingredients currently available on the market are insoluble, meaning they do not dissolve, which leads to unwanted sedimentation in finished products. PurTurmeric, however, appears clean in solution, says the company. AFS also says that PurTurmeric is highly shelf-stable for up to two years.
Finally, the company emphasizes that PurTurmeric’s curcuminoid content is standardized, or consistent, throughout the formulation process. And, because PurTurmeric is an extract ingredient, manufacturers can save hours of processing raw turmeric, which in turn minimizes waste. According to AFS, PurTurmeric offers manufacturers a simple solution for providing “consistent product flavor and nutritional benefits from turmeric in every production run.”
