Outbreak Ease has introduced its new, chewable L-lysine tablet, Lysine Balanced. According to a press release, the new formulation offers an alternative way for consumers to get their daily dose of L-lysine in a chewable form, as opposed to the traditional pill forms currently available on the market that must be swallowed. Lysine Balanced has a tart-sweet, lemon flavor, and is naturally colored with turmeric.
L-lysine is an essential amino acid that the body does not naturally produce; thus, it must be consumed through diet or supplementation. It is known to help boost immunity and reduce the frequency, severity, and duration of Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) outbreaks-viruses like herpes, shingles, and cold sores-that have been connected to low levels of L-lysine compared to L-arginine, says Outbreak Ease. Supplementation can help restore an ideal ratio of the two amino acids, the company says.
The recommended serving size for Lysine Balanced is two tablets (500 mg of L-lysine with 320 mg of vitamin C) taken daily. According to the company, the supplement contains three calories, less than 1 g of sugar, and less than 1 g of carbohydrates per serving. The company also says that supplementation with L-lysine, in any form, has been shown to support healthy immune function and skin, tissue, and lip health. The supplement is free of wheat, dairy, nuts, soy, egg, and fish and is sweetened with both sugar and stevia (Stevia rebaudiana).
