Lonza Consumer Nutrition & Health (Basel, Switzerland) is opening a new manufacturing facility in the U.S. According to the company, the Greenwood, South Carolina, facility will add 50,000 sq ft of manufacturing space to its existing specialty ingredients production capabilities.
The expanded facility is slated to open mid-2019, the company said, and will create 30 new jobs in Greenwood county. Currently, the Greenwood site produces empty capsules and finished dosage forms for the global biopharma and consumer health and nutrition markets.
In a press statement from the company, Sven Abend, COO, Lonza Specialty Ingredients, commented on new facility: “This investment further demonstrates our commitment to providing high-quality products and services to our customers worldwide. Bringing together expanded manufacturing capabilities for our science-backed ingredients, with the production of our innovative dosage forms in one facility, allows us to offer a broader range of integrated, end-to-end solutions for our customers-from function through to form.”
The company said that this new facility is part of an ongoing investment program. In 2016, Lonza acquired InterHealth Nutraceuticals, which expanded the company’s ingredient range. Last year, Lonza acquired Capsugel’s delivery-systems portfolio, which includes, among other formats, capsule-in-capsule technology; lipid multiparticulate (LMP) microspheres within a capsule; delayed-release designs; acid-resistant capsules; and plant-based capsules.
