A recent study published in BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies found that a Persicaria minorextract from HP Ingredients (Brandenton, FL), called IQ200, supports cognitive health in subjects with mild cognitive impairment. In the study, 30 older adults were randomized to receive one 250 mg capsule of IQ200 or placebo twice daily for six months. Researchers assessed cognitive function, and mood at baseline, three months, and six months using neuropsychological tests and Profile of Mood States (POMS) questionnaire.
Results showed that after six months of supplementation, the Persicaria minor extract significantly improved visual memory, and negative mood such as tension, anger and confusion. Researchers also observed improvements in brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and triglyceride levels. The results in this study were in line with previous studies that also showed improvements in tension, depression, anger, and total mood disturbance. among healthy middle-aged women.
