NutriScience Innovations (Trumbull, CT) and Arjuna Natural (Kerala, India) have introduced Shoden, what they say is the highest potency ashwagandha extract on the market. Available as a powder, Shoden is standardized to 35% withanolide glycosides, with a recommended dose of 120 mg. Three clinical trial have been completed on the extract, demonstrating significant increases in testosterone in men, reductions in cortisol levels, and improvements in non-restorative sleep. Two more clinical trials are in progress studying endurance and immune support.
“Arjuna has used its product development, manufacturing, and scientific expertise to develop this new standardized extract,” said Benny Anthony, PhD, joint managing director for Arjuna, in a press release. “Arjuna is working on multiple aspects of Shoden – the clinical and scientific studies, new analytical developments, and GMP manufacturing.”
“Shoden has all the pieces for a prized dietary ingredient – low dose, demonstrated potency, full spectrum analysis, high manufacturing quality, no safety or regulatory concerns, patented, clean label,” added Michael Lelah, PhD, chief science officer at NutriScience, in a press release. “Easy for formulating in a stand-alone product or in combination with other ingredients for a wide spectrum of product claims.”
Shoden contains a full spectrum of known and newly identified withanolide glycoside bioflavonoids as analyzed by high pressure liquid chromatography, and has been shown in bioavailability studies to remain in the blood even after 24 hours.
