The Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED) released its 2020 Annual Report detailing the organization’s accomplishments, financial health, and progress on strategic objectives from the previous year. The report also includes the organization’s five-year strategic plan.
Among GOED’s goals are to prioritize growing its membership base in Asia, which is a key growth area for omega-3s, and complete its clinical study database cataloging all human studies on omega-3s. The database would also turn the science into consumer-friendly messages for members for the industry to share. New initiatives for GOED focus on two areas: diagnostics and sustainability.
For GOED, the diagnostics strategy is part of its larger effort to educate consumers on the fact that they are not getting enough EPA and DHA. Diagnostics would help drive this education, which is vital for future success. The focus on sustainability goes beyond fishery sustainability and encompasses examining the whole social responsibility paradigm, says GOED. The action plan for this involves understanding the current situation, making recommendations and establishing goals to then communicate these developments to industry and consumers.
