Florida Food Products (Lake Mary, FL; FFP) has announced that it has been issued a new patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its rice bran extract, marketed as VegStable Plus. The product is an all-natural, plant-based ingredient that can replace starches, gums, phosphates, and carrageenan, as well as enhance juiciness, flavor, and the texture of meat products.
The current patent (U.S. Patent No. 11,785,970 entitled, “Method for treating meat and seafood products with rice bran extract”) adds the current intellectual property related to VegStable Plus, specifically Patent No. 11,484,051 issued on November 1, 2022 titled “Rice bran extract compositions.”
“The latest patent emphasizes FFP’s commitment to innovation in advancing clean label ingredient solutions and further strengthens the intellectual property of our VegStable Plus solution,” said Jason Reicks, vice president of Market Development, Performance at FFP, in a press release. “VegStable Plus uses only materials found in nature. Rice bran naturally contains inositol phosphates, the plant storage form of phosphate. FFP optimized the utilization of this product to create an all-natural functional ingredient that allows manufacturers to ditch undesirable ingredients and create a new generation of clean label meats. FFP is committed to providing innovative clean label solutions and offers a portfolio of solutions that naturally provide exceptional food protection, flavor, color, and texture for a variety of applications.
