With the philosophy that natural polyphenols remain a “mostly unexploited” force on the sports-nutrition market, Fytexia (Vendres, France) has launched four new polyphenol-based ingredients aimed at various aspects of athletic performance and recovery. The new line of branded ingredients is backed by human clinical studies, Fytexia notes, and will be officially launched at the upcoming SupplySide West 2016 trade show.
The new line includes PerfLoad, a “performance enhancing system” that combines extracts of grape, pomegranate, and green tea. As support for its efficacy, Fytexia points to recent clinical research finding PerfLoad may significantly increase total anaerobic work capacity and anaerobic power in healthy adult men.
Fytexia is also unveiling a polyphenol-based ingredient designed for people engaged in aerobic exercise. The new BorntoRun ingredient, which combines citrus-fruit extracts, L-carnitine, and guarana seeds, has been studied for significant benefits to maximal aerobic capacity during exercise (VO2max) and aerobic endurance, Fytexia says.
Additionally, Fytexia’s new TensLess marries mangosteen, pomegranate, and elderberry fruit extracts in a combo designed to “improve oxidative stress and unbalanced metabolism induced by sport practice.” The company adds that a recent randomized, double-blind, crossover study found TensLess supplementation mitigated post-workout discomfort, muscle soreness, and post-workout pain.
Finally, the new line also includes HolisFiit, a combination of botanical extracts from green tea, yerba mate, grapefruit, black carrot, and grape, as well as vitamin B3. This ingredient is designed “to support focus and optimize mind-body workouts” from activities such as yoga, Tai Chi, or Pilates. Fytexia points to a recent study suggesting adults 30–50 who supplemented with HolisFiit in addition to their workout experienced significantly higher overall feelings of vitality, increases to general health perception, and significant increases to overall sleep quality.
As the market for sports-nutrition products continues to expand its reach among mainstream, “everyday fitness enthusiasts,” Fytexia says product formulators should be looking toward formulas that are “perfectly safe, supported by strong human evidence, and made of non-GMO ingredients that people can recognize and trust.” That’s why Fytexia has turned to well-researched fruit and vegetable polyphenols for its new line, which it says “can combine all those aspects.”
