Lesaffre Human Care (Marcq-en-Baroeul, France) will present its new ingredient line for women’s health, Lynside VaginActiv, at the Vitafoods Europe trade show in Geneva. The line is based around the company’s healthy-yeast ingredients, which have been shown in recent studies to help fight the pathogenic yeast Candida albicans, which is a prominent cause of vaginal infections.
Currently, the Lynside VaginActiv line includes two products. The first is Lynside VaginActiv Oral, a probiotic yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3856), meant for oral use, such as in the dietary supplements industry.
The second ingredient is Pharma VaginActiv Local, a dried yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3856), which is designed for medical devices for vaginal applications, targeting the drug market.
The company adds that because the two ingredients offer “different responses to a common challenge, these two ingredients can be used individually or concomitantly to fight vaginal infections and prevent recurrence.”
According to the company, “Vulvovaginal candidiasis is in fact one of the most prevalent causes of vaginal infections in women of reproductive age and is characterized by the disruption of the vaginal microbiota composition. This unbalance favors opportunistic pathogen Candida albicans overgrowth.” The company says its ingredient can help, especially given the fact that over 75% of women worldwide experience at least one episode of vulvovaginal candidiasis in their life, with 4% to 8% suffering from recurrence (4 or more per year).
