The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA; Herbal Spring, MD) has launched a new website, www.keepsupplementsclean.org, to keep industry informed on issues related to illegal, tainted dietary supplements.
The website identifies product categories most susceptible to adulteration and includes a list of all related enforcement actions and recalls, which AHPA says will be kept updated. Besides information for the trade, the website will also include information for consumers on adulteration.
Supplements are illegal if they contain drug ingredients or ingredients that otherwise do not qualify as dietary ingredients. In the last year, FDA, in collaboration with leading industry associations, has highlighted strengthened efforts to enforce against such adulterated products.
