The suppliers of FB3, a new herbal-based weight-management ingredient introduced earlier this year, have created a new beverage with the ingredient, called FB3 Fusion.
“In addition to our FB3 tablets, the interest in foods and beverages containing healthy ingredients has led to [the] development of [the] FB3 Fusion Ingredient in the form of [an] on-the-go shot drink with pomegranate in a 50-ml serving size,” said Vladimir Badmaev, MD, PhD, CEO of American Medical Holdings (New York City), which launched FB3 together with supplier Bio Actives Japan (Tokyo).
FB3 is said to present an alternative to conventional fat blockers. Based on three herbal ingredients-Coleus forskohlii, Salacia reticulata, and Sesamum indicum-the ingredient’s pathway of operation is by inhibiting pancreatic lipase. Unlike other fat blockers, it avoids “negative gastrointestinal and metabolic side effects,” the companies have said, citing in vitro data.
The company says its research showed that FB3 prevented absorption of omega-6 fatty acids and dietary fat. “Hypothetically,” it said via press release, “preventing absorption of excess dietary fat and omega-3 fatty acids may gradually normalize the overactive endocannabinoid system, thereby preventing obesity, especially if this approach is combined with consuming an omega-3 fatty acid-rich diet, which competes with omega-6 fatty acid absorption.”
