Nordic Naturals launches two vegan vitamin D3 products.
Nordic Naturals (Watsonville, CA) is introducing Vitamin D3 Vegan, a line of vegan vitamin D3 products sourced from lichen. Lichen is a plantlike organism that results from a symbiotic growth of algae and fungus.
Because vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is most often sourced from lanolin, a derivative of sheep’s wool, vegans and strict vegetarians often rely on vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) for their supplement needs. Growing research, however, suggests that vitamin D3 is morebioavailable than vitamin D2.
Nordic Naturals’ vegan vitamin D3 products include a 1-oz. liquid dropper, with 1000 IU of vitamin D3 per serving, and a softgel format. Both products are registered by the Vegan Society and are free of genetically modified ingredients, hexane, gluten, milk derivatives, and artificial colors and flavors.
