Thanks to its newly improved SymTrap extraction technology, functional ingredient supplier Symrise AG (Holzminden, Germany) is now launching Actiplants, a portfolio of bioactive ingredients from natural extracts which the company says are extracted through a highly effective and energy-saving method.

The company says its patented extraction process is based on an adsorption-desorption method which allows for gentler extraction to isolate healthful ingredients in highly efficient concentrations.

The Actiplants line will feature a variety of healthful ingredients, including bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus)extract. Increasing research on bilberry is pointing to bilberry’s natural concentration of anthocyanins, believed to promote better eye health, capillary function, and other improved health factors.

“Though important to human health, this group of compounds is only present in bilberries in trace amounts (no more than 0.5%),” states Symrise. “Symrise, however, has managed to raise the concentration to 25% and in some cases to even 36%.”

Symrise’s Hamburg production plant will play host to the company’s largest SymTrap plant.
