Standardized black cumin seed oil supports metabolic function and liver health, say new study

A recent study published in the Journal of Nutrition & Food Science shows that a black cumin seed oil standardized to 3% Thymoquinone  supports metabolic function and fatty liver.

A recent study published in the Journal of Nutrition & Food Science shows that a black cumin seed oil standardized to 3% Thymoquinone (ThymoQuin 3% from TriNutra) supports metabolic function and fatty liver. In the animal study, researchers divided 15 mice into three groups with five animals each, fed a specific diet for 20 weeks. There was a lean diet group, a high fat diet group, and a high fat diet group treated with black cumin seed oil for the last eight weeks of the trial.

Results showed that a high fat diet increased blood pressure and fasting blood glucose compared to control, and that the high fat diet group given black cumin seed oil saw a reduction in blood pressure and fasting blood glucose compared to mice fed a high fat diet alone. Supplementation with black cumin seed oil also produced a significant increase in oxygen consumption compared to a high fat diet alone. Hepato-protective effects we also observed. Supplementation significantly reducing hepatic fat accumulation and preventing the development of non-alcoholic steato-hepatitis, and liver fibrosis.
