Sirio Pharma announces new SirioSure QA/QC initiative.
Sirio Pharma (Sirio) announced in a recent press release that that company is kickstarting a new quality control initiative that will aim toward, “providing efficacy and effectiveness assurances for nutrition product brand owners and their customers.” With the SirioSure program, it will help Sirio Pharma offer their customers pharma-grade quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) which will then provide confidence in their product quality, ingredient levels, as well as label claims.
The SirioSure initiative utilizes, “Elements such as thorough supplier vetting, expertise-driven formulation development, detailed ingredient shelf-life analyses and production line data collection seamlessly combine to help ensure long-term product efficacy. Meanwhile, sophisticated inspection and testing equipment, optimized facility floorplans, and system-wide, unit-level traceability provide transparency and tight process oversight.”
Sirio points out that there is growing trend of negative press surrounding dietary supplements. For example, a field study1 from 2023, published in JAMA Network Open, tested 57 products and found that only 11% of them had the amount of the key ingredient listed on their labels. That study was picked up by mainstream news outlets, painting dietary supplements as unregulated, falsely advertised, and potentially dangerous. With SirioSure, the company is pushing back against this narrative.
Looking ahead, the company expressed plans to acquire a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) system. This will strengthen analysis, as well as foreign particle detection capabilities. The GC-MS/MS system will additionally be able to “detect and deter pesticide residues,” which has been causing concern throughout the nutrition industry.
"Since Sirio was originally a pharmaceutical company, we’ve always brought a pharma-grade approach to quality assurance and control," explained Sara Lesina, general manager Sirio Europe & Americas. "We pride ourselves on developing and manufacturing products that include what their labels say they include – and perform how their brand owners promise they’ll perform. To accomplish this amid an ever-expanding global marketplace, our SirioSure quality management protocols are constantly evolving to meet and exceed various regional regulations and customer requirements."
Ryan Li, head of quality at Sirio Pharma said, "At Sirio Pharma, our commitment to providing safe and reliable products drives us to continuously pursue higher quality. We are harnessing the power of technological advancements, from advanced process monitoring and automated inspection systems to AI and other digital tools, to enhance our quality standards, ensure food safety, and contribute to the advancement of global health."
