Designs for Health (Palm Coast, FL), a practitioner channel dietary supplement company, has launched Annatto-E, a line of vitamin E tocotrienols derived from the South American annatto plant (Bixa orellana).  Available in 150-mg and 300-mg serving sizes, Annatto-E comes in small, easy-to-swallow softgels.

“Annatto-E brings vitamin E into the 21st century,” said Neal Mercado, vice president of marketing and innovation at Designs for Health, in a press release. “Up until now, much of the research and media attention has focused on alpha-tocopherol as the most popular member of the vitamin E family, but new science is concentrating on tocotrienols and their superior health benefits unshared by tocopherols.”

According to the company, tocotrienols are 40-60 times more potent at protecting against cellular damage from free radicals compared to their more common vitamin E counterpart alpha-tocopherol. This is due to the smaller, more flexible molecular structure, allowing tocotrienols be more easily incorporated into the cell membrane, says Designs for Health. The firm uses the proprietary DeltaGold vitamin E ingredient manufactured by American River Nutrition (Hadley, MA).
