Omya (Ofringen, Switzerland) has a new powdered energy drink concept called Omyafit, offering customers an all-in-one finished product solution. The instant drink, in sachet portion packaging, utilizes the firm’s proprietary Omya Calcipur natural calcium carbonate as a multifunctional processing aid, guaranteeing good dispersion due to its controlled surface properties and particle size, allowing it to settle more slowly. Stabilizers and thickeners help further control sedimentation by increasing viscosity.
Omyafit also allows for a “high in calcium” nutritional claim, containing 240 mg of calcium per 10 g portion, equating to 600 mg of natural calcium carbonate, 30% of the daily recommended intake. In addition, it's fortified with vitamins such as C, D, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, folic acid, and the minerals zinc, iron, selenium, and chromium. For energy, the product uses taurine, L-tyrosine, guarana seed extract, and caffeine. Omyafit comes in raspberry flavor with just 27 calories, artificially sweetened with isomaltulose, steviol glycosides and sucralose.
“Thanks to the versatility of calcium carbonate, in addition to our extensive formulation expertise, and wide-ranging ingredient distribution portfolio, we are able to develop holistic products that combine the advantages of easy processing with indulgence and a highly valuable nutritional profile,” commented Stefan Lander, vice president, consumer goods, group sales, and marketing for Omya, in a press release.
