Two of OmniActive’s (Morristown, NJ) proprietary ingredients, its Capsimax capsicum extract and its OmniLean Salacia extract, have now received self-affirmed Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status, the firm reports. Both ingredients were determined to be GRAS in accordance with FDA safety criteria by expert panels.
OmniLean, which OmniActive has dubbed a “metabolic synergizer,” is designed to help support metabolic health, with a recent study suggesting it may reduce post-prandial insulin and blood glucose.
“OmniLean is a novel, differentiated ingredient with huge opportunity due to its formula flexibility and versatility in the metabolic health, weight management, and satiety categories,” said Lynda M. Doyle, senior vice president of global marketing for OmniActive. “OmniLean comes backed by OmniActive’s robust clinical program and GRAS self-affirmation, which positions it as a unique, safe, and effective ingredient.”
Meanwhile, Capsimax capsicum extract delivers capsaicinoids “without the oral and gastric burning sensation of unprotected red hot peppers,” according to OmniActive.
“Capsimax is a category-creating ingredient,” said Doyle. “And with new Capsimax science coming out of our robust clinical program, as well as gaining GRAS self-affirmation, Capsimax remains a unique ingredient for sports nutrition, weight management, and healthy, active lifestyles.”
