The upgrades result in greater efficiency, traceability, customization, and speed to market, the firm says.
Nellson LLC (Anaheim, CA), a manufacturer of branded and private-label nutrition bars and functional powders, has upgraded its formulation-management system. The new Formulation Library and Specs Hub (FLASH) “will act as a central hub for the creation, management, storage, and manufacturing process of formulas across Nellson’s four manufacturing plants, which are located in California and Montreal,” the company says.
The system took three years to develop between Nellson’s internal team and a third-party developer. The FLASH formulation-management system represents an advancement in efficiency, traceability, and customization, the firm says. Among other capabilities, it “enables users to easily view iterations of a formula throughout the development process, useful in comparing formula iterations and tracking changes, including price comparison.” From a regulatory point of view, it can help “generate reports on compliance status with relevant regulations, standards, and certifications.”
On the audit end, FLASH can generate advanced and customized audit reports that let companies track their formula’s creation, cost, timing, and other product development factors. Because the system is centralized, it facilitates efficiency, speed to market, and collaboration across Nellson’s R&D teams, added Bart Child, chief commercial officer, Nellson, in a press release.
“We are excited to launch our new FLASH Formulation Management System, as it streamlines our processes to minimize errors and improve accuracy across our facilities,” said Child. “FLASH provides a standardized method for developing and storing formulas. With FLASH, our team can offer an improved level of quality control to ensure consistency in delivering high-quality products and supporting Nellson’s mission to serve as a reliable brand partner for our customers. Customers will see great benefits with FLASH, including its ability to create custom data reports based on customer or site requirements, customized reports based on quality parameters like allergens, enhanced security features to ensure customer confidentiality, and an ingredient cost interface that automatically uploads costs and more.”
In addition, he added, “FLASH also provides data analysis, so data can be analyzed to identify cost-saving opportunities, improve batch yields, and refine nutritional and product attributes to meet the guidelines outlined by our customers. We can also proactively respond to any issues and take corrective action due to tracking and tracing our product throughout the development cycle.”
