Norweigian ingredients supplier NutraQ (Norway; www.nutraq.com or www.biotec.no) says that its food-grade beta-1,3/1,6-glucan ingredient, Norwegian Beta-Glucan (NBG), which is isolated from baker’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), has been granted novel food approval in the EU.
The company describes NBG as a natural and patented bioactive compound that “is proven to induce correct and optimal immune response in animals and humans. The immune potentiating feature of NBG is well recognized, and the compound has thus been used as a health-promoting food supplement for more than 14 years in Norway and for more than 10 years in United States and in Japan.”
