A recently published study in GeroScience, looked into investigating how 100 mg of MonaJuventa Nu (from Mibelle AG Biochemistry, based in Buchs, Switzerland), a natural and flavonoid-rich powder extract derived from scarlet beebalm, could potentially be used to slow down biological aging. The study was led by Prof. Sofia Pavanello, a longevity and epigenetic expert.
The randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel design, monocentric clinical study took place at the BioAgingLab of the Department of Cardio-, Thoraco-, and Vascular Sciences and Public Health (DSCTV) of the University of Padua (Padua, Italy). To gather data, researchers used 81 participants that were between the ages of 45-65 years old who reported that they had stressful jobs. From those participants, some were given 100 mg MonaJuventa Nu or a placebo once a day over the course of 12 weeks.1
After analyzing the data, researchers found that MonaJuventa Nu showed promising results for promoting healthy aging, including the prevention of epigenetic aging based on stable DNAmAge values, a decreased telomere shortening rate, 25% lower cortisol levels when compared to the placebo group, enhanced quality of life, as well as improve physical activity and sleep index.1
“Through extensive screening of various plants for epigenetic aging activity, we identified Monarda didyma as the most potent ingredient," said Dr. Torsten Grothe, head of food and health at Mibelle Biochemistry, in the press release. "MonaJuventa Nu, rich in the anti-aging flavonoid didymin, stands out as the first botanical known to impact key aging processes, effectively countering nine of the twelve hallmarks of aging. The Monarda didyma raw material used in MonaJuventa Nu is organically grown at carefully selected farms in Austria and Switzerland.”
Torsten added that, "Our study fits perfectly into the booming active aging and longevity market, showcasing an innovative, natural and safe active ingredient, which tackles several key processes involved in healthy aging, contributing to longevity.”
