The company’s additional trademarked ingredients now self-affirmed Generally Recognized as Safe include RealTurkeyTail and Mushroom Immune Complex.
Mushroom ingredient supplier Nammex (Gibsons, BC, Canada) announced self-affirmed Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) status for two more of its trademarked mushroom ingredients: RealTurkeyTail and Mushroom Immune Complex, which is a blend of chaga, maitake, reishi, shiitake, and turkey tail. These now join other concentrated organic mushroom extracts in the Nammex portfolio with GRAS status, which indicates safe use for foods and beverages.
Says the company in a press release: “The Nammex manufacturing process for 1:1 extracts does not change the identity, chemical composition, or properties of the mushrooms and therefore does not trigger the ‘food additive’ provisions of FDA regulations. However, the concentrated extracts do need safety data to be used in commercial foods and beverages.”
“We’re seeing a lot of interest from functional foods and, especially, functional beverages companies,” added Bill Chioffi, chief strategy and innovation officer, Nammex, in the press release. “While some are adding mushroom extracts to existing products, more are building formulas specifically around the significant benefits of fungi such as immune or stress support.”
Other trademarked Nammex ingredients with self-affirmed GRAS status include RealChaga, RealCordyceps, RealLionsMane, RealMaitake, RealReishi, and RealShiitake.
