Results showed that supplementation with the Mangifera indica extract significantly improved mental speed, attention, working memory, response inhibition, as well as verbal learning and memory.
A recently published study1 investigated the impact of a Mangifera indica extract on cognitive function. In the study, 60 healthy subjects between the ages of 18 and 4 were given either 300 mg of the branded extract, called Stadice (from Zeus Hygia, Lifesciences, based in Telangana, India) or placebo for seven days. The researchers chose active players of virtual/mobile/computer/laptop games, and they used cognitive ability tests that were part of the NIMHANS Neuropsychological Battery and Auditory verbal learning tests to assess the cognitive health effects of the interventions. Researchers also assessed psychological stress response, anxiety, mood, subjective working memory, and cortisol levels.
Results showed that supplementation with the Mangifera indica extract significantly improved mental speed, attention, working memory, response inhibition, as well as verbal learning and memory. There was also evidence that the extract helped with the management of stress, namely nervousness, irritability, or mood swings. No safety concerns were observed.
According to the company, the extract is standardized to ≥30% mangiferin, and has enhanced solubility in lower pH leading to better bioavailability and efficacy. “This study is significant as it targets a younger demographic and the growing world of e-gaming. It also is a food derived, natural product which is trending with consumers,” said Mark Thurston, president of AIDP, Inc., in a press release. AIDP is the ingredient’s distributor.
