Layn Natural Ingredients (Irvine, CA) has announced the results of a new human clinical study demonstrating the ability of its SophorOx ingredient to reduce oxidative stress and support weight management. Layn explains in a press release that the study was conducted on 50 overweight or obese adults between the ages of 18 and 40 with a sedentary lifestyle. These subjects were given either placebo of SophorOx daily for duration of two months. Subjects were screened at baseline, 28 days, and 56 days, where researchers took measurements of oxidative stress and inflammation, which serve as the primary objectives.

To assess oxidative stress, isoprostane was measured because it is a reliable biomarker of lipid peroxidation and antioxidant deficiency. Results showed that subjects taking SophorOx experienced a significant 600% reduction in isoprostane levels, compared to placebo. Researchers also observed changes in BMI, weight, and waist circumference as secondary endpoints. Results showed that subjects taking SophorOx saw a 13 times greater reduction in BMI, 15 times better weight reduction, and 8 times lower weight circumference, compared to placebo.

"Oxidative stress and chronic inflammation are known to play a role in a number of health issues and reducing oxidative stress can help support the body across various metabolic functions,” said Jim Roza, chief scientific officer at Layn Natural Ingredients, in a press release. “This study underscores the potential of SophorOx as a powerful antioxidant that can effectively reduce oxidative stress, with significant implications for overall health and well-being. The ingredient supports diverse groups, including overweight individuals, those with sedentary lifestyles, aging populations and even pets."

Roza will present more details on the study in the Supplier Presentation Theater at SupplySide West in Las Vegas, on October 26th at 1:30 PM. Layn will be at booth #5065, showcasing SophorOx. The ingredient is derived from Sophora japonica, and standardized to a minimum of 90% flavonoids, including quercetin, rutin, isorhamnetin, kaempferol, genistin, and genistein. SophorOx is non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free, and is free from BSE/TSE contamination and ETO irradiation.
