Chia In a Bottle
First-to-market organic chia seed beverages suspend whole chia seeds in Blackberry Hibiscus, Coconut Mango, Pomegranate Mint, Cherry Lime, Raspberry Passion, and Cranberry Lemonade drink flavors. Each vegan, gluten-free Mamma Chia beverage is lightly sweetened with less than 1 tablespoon of organic agave nectar. Each bottle offers 2500 mg of omega-3, a good source of fiber, 4 g of protein, 10% Daily Value of calcium, and antioxidants.

High-Protein Ketchup
Protica Inc., a marketer of high-protein beverages and shots, is exploring a new food category: the condiment. The company’s new Protein Ketchup contains 15 g of protein, 2 g of fiber, and two servings of vegetables in each 1-oz cup. As a result, the company says, the product can offer consumers satiety benefits for weight management. The company adds that its goal was to offer a more nutritious version of what it says has been a “nutritionally void condiment.”
 

Preserving Coffee’s Antioxidants
Life Extension’s new Rich Rewards ground coffees, Breakfast Blend and Decaf Roast, are processed to preserve the antioxidant content that can often be destroyed due to extreme heat during coffee bean roasting. As a result, Rich Rewards coffees offer up to 254% more chlorogenic acid (the antioxidant naturally found in unroasted coffee) than other premium brands. The coffee beans used are certified by Rainforest Alliance and organic certified by USDA. In addition, novel compounds from HealthyRoast-the patented process responsible for preserving the coffees’ antioxidant content-reduce proton secretory activity that can contribute to stomach upset.

Immune-Boosting Bar
ResVez Inc.’s TravelTime bar combines key ingredients resveratrol and Wellmune WGP, a beta-glucan ingredient from Biothera (Eagan, MN) that promotes immune health. Wellmune WGP is derived from a proprietary strain of baker’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). The TravelTime bar is available in two flavors, Granola Citrus Burst and Almond Coffee with chocolate chips.

Weight-Management Enzyme Blend
Slender GR is a new weight-management and digestive-health dietary supplement from Enzymedica Inc. It features proprietary enzyme blends Glucoreductase and Lipase Thera-blend, as well as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and rice bran.  The Glucoreductase blend is said to reduce absorbable sugars, encourage a lower glycemic index, and support balanced blood sugar levels already within a normal range. The Lipase Thera-blend increases fat metabolism. SOD reduces oxidative stress and promotes healthy detoxification, while the rice bran promotes healthy elimination, supports satiety, and acts synergistically with Glucoreductase.

Acai Roots’ newest ready-to-drink beverage combines two popular Brazilian fruits: acai and coconut. The beverage is USDA certified organic and is available in 32- and 10-oz bottles.

All-Natural Teeth Whitening
In its new all-natural toothpaste, Kiss My Face has replaced the water used in standard whitening toothpastes with healing and soothing organic Aloe vera. Other ingredients include Icelandic moss, which provides natural whitening, and tea tree to cleanse and act as an antiseptic.

Probiotics Powered
Sports nutrition brand Gaspari Nutrition has selected Ganeden Biotech’s (Cleveland) GanedenBC30 probiotic strain as a new headline ingredient for its MyoFusion protein powders and Real Mass Weight Gainer powder. Thanks to GanedenBC30, these products now support digestive and immune health.

Probiotics Plus Coconut
The GoodBelly non-dairy probiotics drink brand has introduced a new 10-oz version of its original 32-oz probiotic coconut water. The company says it is one of the only grab-and-go coconut waters with probiotics. In addition to the health and digestive benefits of probiotics, the beverage and its coconut water provide naturally occurring electrolytes, including calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and sodium, to aid hydration. The probiotic strain is the company’s patented Lp299v strain, whose efficacy the company says is supported by more than 16 human research trials. Each 10-oz beverage contains 20 billion live and active probiotic cultures per 8-oz serving.

Astaxanthin Liquid Supplement
Novel Creation’s Maximum Red Alga liquid supplement stars Algatechnologies’ (Israel) AstaPure 10% astaxanthin oleoresin. As a carotenoid, astaxanthin is an extremely potent antioxidant. The company says it is 500 times more effective than vitamin E and more powerful than beta-carotene. Together with Algatechnologies, Novel Creation tested the absorption rate of AstaPure in different forms, including Maximum Red Alga’s water-based formulation, and found AstaPure to be well absorbed in the digestive tract. The liquid supplement is made using technology that enables the oil-soluble astaxanthin to be incorporated in water-based formulations, while preserving efficacy.

Healthy Feet and Nerves
Healthy Feet and Nerves, from EuroPharma’s Terry Naturally supplements brand, was designed to support healthy nerve function in the feet and throughout the body, as well as promote healthy blood sugar metabolism and blood circulation. Ingredients include vitamins B6 and B12, as well as L-methylfolate, which the company says support the structure of healthy nerves and help the body metabolize carbohydrates efficiently. Other ingredients are alpha-lipoic acid to boost free-radical fighter glutathione, as well as highly absorbable chromium and zinc chelates for healthy insulin response. Finally, BosPure-brand boswellia supports a healthy inflammation response.

Berry-Flavored Whey Protein
Jarrow Formulas has added a new berry flavor to its whey protein line. The product is made with whey protein concentrate that is certified free of recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBST). In addition to the new berry flavor, other line flavors include chocolate, vanilla, and unflavored.

Nestlé Health Science’s Boost drink touts new packaging. The new bottle is designed to be lightweight and easy to grip, and features a no-foil, easy-to-open top. The beverage is designed to help meet daily nutrition needs and provides 26 essential vitamins and minerals, as well as 10 g of protein per 8-oz serving.

Sprinkle Omega-3 on Top
A neutral-flavored powder from Nordic Naturals now makes it easy for consumers to ensure that foods and beverages are fortified with adequate amounts of omega-3. Omega-3 Fortify is a powder that can be used as a soluble drink mix-or as a topping on food. The ingredient is soluble in food and liquid and can be added to any food that is not too hot, without changing taste or texture. The powder comprises microencapsulated cod liver oil in natural triglyceride form for optimal absorption. Each single-serving stick pack contains 500 mg of EPA+DHA.

Algae-Based Skincare
Solazyme Inc. (San Francisco, CA) is introducing firming and lifting skincare products as part of its algae-based skincare brand, Algenist. The products are based around Solazyme’s unique algae extract, Alguronic Acid, which has demonstrated a variety of cosmetic benefits, including cell regeneration and elastin synthesis. The new Algenist products retail at more than 1100 locations worldwide, including more than 300 Sephora stores in North America, 308 Sephora locations inside JCPenney stores, and on QVC. The firming and lifting line includes cream, eye gel, and a mask.

Energy Drink Stick Packs
Sea coral calcium brand Coral LLC has introduced a stick pack version of its hydrating and energizing drink mix, Cell EnerG. The company says that Cell EnerG is the first highly absorbable hydrating drink mix to provide electrolytes from 74 ocean minerals, along with vitamins C and D3-all to revitalize the body at the cellular level. The product’s ionic electrolytes from a full complex of ocean minerals are said to be present in the same ratio as in the human body. Minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium help to alkalize and hydrate the body, while vitamins C and D3 provide antioxidants and immune support.

Plant-Based Omega-3
Those looking for a non-fish omega-3 supplement have a new option in Schiff Nutrition’s new MegaRed Plant-Omega. Using life’sDHA ingredients from DSM Nutritional Products (Parsippany, NJ), MegaRed Plant-Omega contains both DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acids derived from algae. Consumers need only take one softgel per day. Each softgel provides 300 mg of EPA+DHA.
