Kaneka Americas Holding Inc.’s (Newark, CA) probiotic formula addressing infant colic has been self-affirmed generally recognized as safe (GRAS), the company announced. Baby Colic is a clinically studied combination of two probiotic strains that the company says helps reduce the duration of crying episodes while also promoting infant gut health.
“Tested in both breastfed and formula-fed infants, the strains used in the Baby Colic formula were initially isolated via a screening process specifically designed to identify strains that have a beneficial effect on infant intestinal health while also showing the ability to adhere to the gut and provide microflora balance,” the company said in a press release. It said that unlike some other probiotic strains, the strains in Baby Colic are not gas-producing, as shown by in vitro studies.
Baby Colic is part of Kaneka’s new Floradapt probiotic portfolio, whose strain library includes more than 1000 strains, including for heart health, digestive health, oral health, vaginal health, and more.
