Snack food brand Health Warrior has introduced a high-protein version of the mug muffin-a single-serve spoonable cake that can be heated in the microwave as a warm, on-the-go breakfast.
Each of the brand’s Protein Mug Muffins contains 12 g of plant-based protein from fava beans, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, and sorghum. The muffin contains only 6 g of sugar and is considered an excellent source of fiber. It is made with superfoods such as ancient grains, nuts, and seeds, and is non-GMO, gluten-free, soy-free, and dairy-free.
In a press release, the company highlighted the Protein Mug Muffin as a healthier breakfast option: “Ready in under a minute, the Protein Mug Muffin makes eating a clean, nutrient-filled, wholesome breakfast simple and convenient. It has the same amount of protein as Greek yogurt, but less than half as much sugar. It also offers a lot more protein and a lot less sugar than instant oatmeal.”
Its ingredients are on trend, too. Julia Wing-Larson, vice president of innovation and marketing for Health Warrior, told Nutritional Outlook, “Plant-based is a top trend now, and we've seen consumers looking for clean, real food that is nutrient-dense, has minimal sugar, and is delicious, too! Healthy, warm, on-the-go breakfasts like instant oatmeal have been a go-to for years, but they're often full of sugar-and people are looking for something new. Muffins as a breakfast food are very popular, but the average muffin is a sugar bomb with little nutritional value. So we combined the convenience of instant oatmeal with the popularity of mug cakes to create a new, plant-based superfood breakfast you can feel good about eating."
The muffins are available in flavors of blueberry, banana nut, and peanut butter chocolate chip‚ and are now being sold on Amazon and on Health Warrior’s website.
