Ganeden BC30 (Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086), a patented spore-forming probiotic ingredient from Kerry (Beloit, WI), supports protein absorption, according to a recent clinical study1. In the double-blind, randomized, controlled crossover study published in Nutrition and Metabolism, 30 subjects completed two supplementation protocols spanning two weeks, separated by a three-week washout period. During these protocols, subjects were instructed to track their dietary intake, and ingest a 25-gram dose of milk protein concentrate (MPC) with or without the addition of Ganeden BC30.
Results showed that MPC with Ganeden BC30 significantly increased the maximum concentrations of 10 amino acids, signaling increased absorption of the milk protein. The addition of Ganeden BC30 also reduced the time to reach peak concentrations of certain amino acids.
“Everyone needs protein, but we can only absorb so much at a time. This study shows that GanedenBC30 improves amino acid absorption, therefore supporting protein utilization,” said Donald Cox, PhD, director of research and development for Ganeden BC30, in a press release. “It’s an exciting addition to the wealth of science that makes GanedenBC30 the leading spore-forming probiotic.”
“This research is a major development in probiotic science and one that offers new opportunities for innovative food and beverage formulation,” added Cox.
