Gadot Biochemical Industries (Haifa Bay, Israel) is entering the oral care market, as its mineral ingredients—including zinc phosphate, zinc gluconate, zinc citrate, tri potassium citrate and more—are now available to fulfill global demand for toothpastes, mouthwashes and rinses, breath fresheners, and gums. For example, potassium citrate is used in toothpastes and mouthwashes/rinses to reduce dentine hypersensitivity in people with tooth sensitivity to hot and cold, as well as to protect against tooth decay. According to Gadot, its zinc citrate and zinc phosphate contain higher levels of zinc (32-43%) with little effect on taste. Forms like zinc gluconate are preferable for products requiring high solubility.
“Zinc has become a more integral natural ingredient that supports oral health,” said Ohad Cohen, CEO of Gadot Biochemical Industries, in a press release. “It has been shown to exert anti-microbial activity as well as to manage inflammation in the oral cavity. In addition, zinc may reduce and/or inhibit formation of dental plaques and tartar, which can lead to or exacerbate gingivitis. The market has moved significantly beyond teeth whitening, as consumers understand that the health of the oral cavity is equally important if not more so than a nice-looking white smile. After all, when your mouth is healthy, there’s simply more to smile about.”
