Holly E. Johnson, PhD, is the chief science officer at the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) where she is the primary scientific resource for the organization, providing individualized technical guidance to member organizations and helping the herbal industry use the latest science, technology, and research to ensure consumers continue to have informed access to innovative, safe, and effective herbal products. Before joining AHPA, Holly served as the laboratory director for Alkemist Labs, an ISO 17025–accredited natural products testing lab specializing in botanicals. Holly earned her PhD in pharmacognosy at the College of Pharmacy, University of Illinois–Chicago (UIC), under renowned pharmacognosist and researcher Dr. Norman Farnsworth.

Petra Erlandson, Director of Sales and Marketing, Alkemist Labs, has been working in the dietary supplement industry since 2006, with extensive experience in technical sales, business development, and technical support of cGMP compliant analytical testing, scientifically valid methodology, and reference materials.
In 2015, Petra joined Alkemist Labs, a third-party testing lab which specializes in botanical testing. She has played an integral role in the expansion of their testing capabilities to include strength and potency analysis as well as contaminant testing. She is responsible for overseeing the sales and client services staff, key client and industry relationships, as well as the company’s marketing and content programs.
Prior to Alkemist, Petra worked at ChromaDex for eight years in technical sales, account management, and global distribution. Petra was responsible for the sales and client technical support of analytical testing services provided by their analytical laboratory. She then managed their extensive reference standard product line and was ultimately promoted to marketing manager.
Previous experience included several positions as a research assistant chemist, and roles in sales and sales management. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California.
Petra is very active on the Women In Nutraceuticals (WIN) Science Committee and is chair of the WIN awards committee. She also sits on multiple trade association committees including the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) Analytical Laboratories, Communications, and Education Committees;Global Retailer and Manufacturer Alliance (GRMA) Dietary Supplement Product Integrity Committee; Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) Communications Committee; Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) Dietary Supplement Committee; and United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA) Advanced Technologies Working Group and Amazon Committee.
