The patent covers a process for manufacturing high antioxidant levels from grapes.
Ethical Naturals Inc. (San Anselmo, CA) has received a U.S. patent for its method of manufacturing antioxidant extracts from grapes. The patent covers the manufacturing process behind ORAC-15M, a signature Ethical Naturals product that guarantees an Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) of over 15,000 μmol TE/gram.
According to the company, ORAC-15M is the highest known ORAC-value functional ingredient available. It also contains 80% polyphenols.
“The process broadly covers extracts from any part of the grape that exceed an ORAC value of 10,000 μmol TE/gram,” said the company in a recent statement.
The Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) ORAC-15M is suitable for multivitamins, dietary supplements, and even beverages.
Ethical Naturals’ patent also covers the processing behind its multi-fruit extract, Standardized Fruit Blend.
