The ingredient is a 10% fluid suspension.
DSM (Parsippany, NJ) now offers its AstaSana astaxanthin in a 10% fluid suspension form suited for soft gels. The company already supplies a 5% CWS/S tablet-grade version.
AstaSana is an unesterified (free) form of astaxanthin. It is nature-identical. DSM says it has impressive bioavailability thanks to the company’s Actilease beadlet technology.
Astaxanthin is increasingly studied for benefits to human heart and eye health. Recent preliminary clinical data indicates that astaxanthin may also support immune health, says DSM.
In dietary supplements, astaxanthin works synergistically with other antioxidants to protect against oxidation, DSM’s AstaSana brochure explains. “Astaxanthin has a unique molecular structure that allows it to insert itself across the cell membrane bi-layer. In this position, astaxanthin can intercept reactive oxygen species (free radical molecules) and limit damage to cells. This positioning also allows astaxanthin to complement the activities of other antioxidants, which are located at the surface of cell membranes to protect cells from harmful oxidation.”
