The independent GRAS conclusion was done in partnership with GRAS Associates, a SGS Nutrasource company. The conclusion was submitted to FDA's GRAS notification program.
GRAS Associates, a SGS Nutrasource company (Guelph, ON, Canada), has announced the independent conclusion of GRAS (generally recognized as safe) for SelenoExcell, a yeast ingredient from Cypress Systems Inc. The conclusion was for the ingredient’s use as a source of selenium in non-exempt infant formula for term infants. The notice of GRAS conclusion (GRN 1149) was submitted to the U.S. Food Administration’s (FDA) GRAS notification program. This is the first such notification for a selenium source for use in infant formula according to a press release from Nutrasource.
Updated November 2, 2023 at 3:33 PM EST. A previous version of this story stated that the GRAS notice received a "No Questions" letter from FDA. This was incorrect. The independent conclusion of GRAS was made, and a notice was submitted, but FDA has not yet responded.
