The company says Microsmin Plus, a diosmin ingredient, also has applications in pain management.
CK Ingredients (Glendale, NY) says it is now a North American distributor of Microsmin Plus, a “bioenhanced” diosmin ingredient. Diosmin, a naturally occurring flavonoid found in citrus fruits and other plants in the Rutaceae family, has been clinically shown—and used in Europe for more than 30 years—to support vascular health thanks to its phlebotonic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects, the firm says.
Unlike typical micronized diosmin, Microsmin Plus is more soluble and bioavailable when supplemented orally, says CK Ingredients. These results are backed by a 2015 preclinical study1 and a 2018 human clinical study2.
The ingredient was developed by a company called Giellepi S.p.A. using proprietary technology that retains a higher concentration of diosmin’s aglycone form (diosmetin). The ingredient is derived from hesperidin from bitter orange and contains more than 80% pure diosmin and 90% total flavonoids.
