Nutritional Outlook spoke to Meeta Kratz, vice president and general manager of the Americas Region for Lonza CHI to discuss the future of the business unit as Lonza undergoes its One Lonza strategy.
In a December 2024 Investor Update, Lonza announced its new One Lonza strategy in which the company would change its organizational structure to better focus on and execute its CDMO business. As part of this reorganization, the company also announced that it would be exiting the Capsules & Health Ingredients (CHI) business “at the appropriate time.” Nutritional Outlook spoke to Meeta Kratz, vice president and general manager of the Americas Region for Lonza CHI to discuss the future of the business unit as Lonza undergoes these changes.
For the time being, Lonza CHI continues to operate in its existing structure, and according to Kratz is heavily focused on strengthening its capabilities. “The exit of CHI from Lonza doesn't change our strategy, doesn't change how we look at the market, doesn't change how we service our customers, nor our continued focus on quality, reliability, the global network of products, and flexibility and partnership with our customers,” says Kratz.
Customer centricity is a core tenet of Lonza CHI that helps it to adapt to a dynamic industry. “No matter what we do, if we keep this to a customer at the center of that thought process, we will evolve with the industry and with our customers as needs grow and change,” says Kratz. “We have a proven quality and expertise around capsules, around ingredients, around dosage forms, around co creating and formulating with our customers, in particular our nutrition customers. We really focus heavily on partnering with our customer base to say, ‘What are the big trends in the market? How can we help you service what you're looking for for the end consumer, and how do we partner to provide the best ingredients, the best capsules, the best dosage form that's possible to get the efficacy that you want for your end consumer based on what problem you're trying to solve?’”
