Capsugel now boasts EU organic certification for production of plant-based capsules.
Capsugel (Morristown, NJ) has made headlines in recent years for innovations in the development of vegetable-based capsules, including Vcaps and Vcaps Plus capsules, DRcaps, and Licaps capsules. Now, Capsugel’s Colmar production facility in Bornem, Belgium is EU organic certified for the production of Licaps.
Licaps are one-piece, liquid-fill capsules made from hypromellose (HPMC), a plant-based cellulose. According to Capsugel, the unique nature of Licaps ensures a pH-independent release of active ingredients because the capsules don’t use added gelling agents.
“The organic certification of Capsugel’s Colmar facility for plant-based Licaps capsules adds to the company’s comprehensive line of vegetarian products for the healthcare market,” says Catherine Lehmann, Capsugel director of marketing for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. “From our recently introduced Plantcaps capsules to our innovative Vcaps Plus capsules and DRcaps acid resistant capsules, customers have a range of vegetal origin capsule options that meet the demands of the savvy green customer.”
Capsugel earned the EU organic certification through independent certifier Bureau Veritas.
