Arla Foods Ingredients (Basking Ridge, NJ) has introduced a new whey protein ingredient, Nutrilac FO-7875, for spoonable and drinkable high-protein yogurts. While these products generally contain a protein content ranging from 5%-9%, the new Arla ingredient can boost this to 11% protein in drinking yogurt, for instance, and only contains 0.8% fat.
Nutrilac FO-7875 also delivers a creamier and smoother texture, even in low-fat recipes, and does not increase viscosity, the firm says. It does not require the addition of stabilizers either, allowing for cleaner labels.
“Nutrilac FO-7875 meets a range of market needs,” said Ignacio Estevez, application manager, South America, at Arla Foods Ingredients, in a press release. “It can be used to create clean-label yogurts that are not only rich in high-quality protein but also low in fat, as well as smooth and creamy.”
Because the ingredient is produced in Argentina, Estevez said, “We’re particularly excited about the unprecedented opportunities it offers in South American markets, where manufacturers will benefit from reduced transit time and no import fees.”
