The International Aloe Science Council (IASC; Silver Spring, MD) has partnered with a testing provider for the association’s seal-based certification program. Process NMR Associates LLC (PNA) will be the primary provider of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopic measurement of all Aloe vera products certified by IASC.
PNA’s testing services will cover measurement of aloe concentration, sacharride distribution, formulation ingredients, and contamination or degradation of all aloe products, including powders, whole leaf extracts, whole leaf and inner leaf gel concentrates, drink concentrates, and ready-to-drink formulations. The testing will quantify constituents such as acemannan and glucose; identify breakdown of products such as acetic acid, lactic acid, pyruvic acid, and succinic acid; and verify preservatives or additives such as citric and benzoic acids or adulterants such as maltodextrin.
Products certified by IASC are allowed to bear the association’s quality seal.
“PNA has demonstrated its capability to provide excellent analytical services in a timely manner to the organization and to the Aloe vera industry at-large,” said Devon Powell, IASC’s executive director, in a press release.
