Israel-based algae ingredients supplier Algatechnologies Ltd. has opened a U.S. subsidiary in New York to serve customers in the North American market. Ken Seguine, an industry veteran with 25 years of experience in the natural products industry, has been appointed head of the New York Algatechnologies office.
Algatechnologies says this expansion into the United States is to accommodate growing demand in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico for the company’s trademark AstaPure Haematococcus pluvialis algae ingredients, including astaxanthin. The company says it is also exploring “new microalgae sources in the pipeline.”
Seguine, who will now lead the New York office, previously served as vice president and marketing for probiotic-ingredient supplier UAS Laboratories, as well as executive vice president, consumer products, for ayurvedic-ingredients firm Savesta Life Sciences Inc. “I am excited to join the team at Algatech and help them better serve the North American market with our new organic and non-GMO ingredients,” Seguine said in a press release.
“We are committed to expanding our global marketing network and strengthening our presence in the NAFTA markets,” said Hagai Stadler, Algatechnologies’ CEO, in a press release.
Algatechnologies is also involved with the European Institute of Innovation and Technology Consortium, part of whose goal is to develop new food sources from microalgae. Algatechnologies says it is the only algae producer to participate in the consortium and has its eye on plant-based protein from microalgae.
In other news, ingredients distributor Barrington Nutritionals (Harrison, NY) said that it is still an exclusive North American distributor of AstaPure oleoresin, powder, and all other non-beadlet product forms. Barrington and Algatechnologies have partnered for the past eight years, with Barrington serving as Algatech’s official AstaPure distributor in North America for non-beadlet products, Barrington said. Barrington says that the two companies are working to introduce organic oleoresin, fucoxanthin, and other products in the coming year.
Recently, ingredients supplier and encapsulation specialist Lycored (Secaucus, NJ) announced that it has partnered with Algatechnologies to distribute AstaPure astaxanthin in vegan beadlets in North America, which then can be used in both supplements and in food and beverages. Barrington Nutritionals is now reminding companies that it continues to distribute Algatechnologies’ non-beadlet ingredients in North America.
