The Amobiome ingredient supports digestive health and a healthy microbiome.
ADM (Chicago) has licensed a gut-health ingredient for pet food and supplements from Swiss biotech company Gnubiotics. The companies entered into a strategic partnership last year. The fermentable fiber ingredient, called Amobiome, supports digestive health and a healthy microbiome.
According to ADM’s press release, “Gnubiotics’ Amobiome ingredient is a unique class of compounds (glycopeptides) that possess properties known to support digestive health and the growth of beneficial gut bacteria…Scientists at Gnubiotics investigated the effect of the milk oligosaccharide biosimilar on the gut microbiome composition and have recently published intriguing data suggesting Amobiome may provide microbiome stability during disturbance by an antibiotic.”
ADM points to the extensive safety and efficacy studies that Gnubiotics has done on animal milk oligosaccharides. Amobiome has an independent Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) conclusion of safe use. Further, the press release states, “In December 2022, Gnubiotics received a ‘no questions’ letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Amobiome as a source of amino acids, peptides, and glycopeptides in food for cats and dogs.”
ADM said it will utilize Amobiome in both supplement and food formulations for pets across its global supply chain. In a press release, Jorge Martínez, president of ADM Pet Nutrition, stated, “The gut microbiome presents new opportunities to support overall pet health and wellness as scientific understanding of microbiota continues to grow.”
