A recent study published in Nutrition Research shows that a polyphenol-rich nootropic spearmint extract called Neumentix by Kemin Human Nutrition and Health (Des Moines, IA) supports cognitive performance. In the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group study 150 active and health men and women, with an average age of 27, either received 900 mg of the spearmint extract or placebo daily for 90 days.
Results showed an 11% improvement in concentration and sustained attention in subjects taking the spearmint extract. More specifically, improvements in complex attention in the supplement group were observed on day 7 of treatment, and sustained attention at day 30 of treatment. There were no significant differences in mood, sleep, or quality of life between groups. According to Kemin, the patented extract is selectively bred to contain more than 50 polyphenols, including rosmarinic acid, and is free from stimulants.
