Functional ingredients supplier AIDP ventures into the digestive health market with a new prebiotic ingredient, PrecticX.
Looking to expand its portfolio into the digestive health market, functional ingredients supplier AIDP Inc. (City of Industry, CA) has launched PrecticX, a new prebiotic ingredient that may be well-suited for use in small doses. The company says the prebiotic has shown promise in clinical studies to increase the proliferation of Bifidobacterium.
GRAS-certified PrecticX consists of xylooligosaccharides (XOS), a “non-GMO corn-derived from of oligosaccharides,” according to a press release. Oligosaccharides are relatively established as popular prebiotics, but AIDP says PrecticX’s distinguishing feature is it has been studied for effective use in both large and small doses.
“The prevailing benefit of PrecticX is that, contrary to probiotics, it is highly stable (does not require refrigeration), and can be used in food and beverage,” says the press release. “Comparing to other prebiotics, it can be used in small doses and thus reduces the chance of bloating.”
AIDP also says it sees prebiotics as the “largest revenue-generating ingredient” in the U.S. digestive health ingredients market.
“Digestive health is a huge market, and we wanted to enter with a strong ingredient, backed by solid science from a reputable manufacturer,” says Kathy Lund, vice president, marketing and new business development, AIDP. “We see the potential in digestive health and particularly prebiotics. We think the benefits of XOS, and consequently PrecticX, will provide a stand-alone platform for this ingredient.”
Representatives from AIDP will be at Natural Products Expo West Booth #183 with samples of PrecticX and other ingredients.
