Beneo says its Isomalt sugar-replacer technology will now allow “multi-colored gum centers to be coated in a crunchy and translucent way.”
The formulation possibilities for chewing gum with translucent coatings just broadened thanks to a new Isomalt coating technology from Beneo (Mannheim, Germany). The new coating technology will allow gum formulators to create “multi-colored gum centers to be coated in a crunchy and translucent way,” says Beneo.
A sugar replacer derived from beet sugar, Isomalt allows for the new gum coating technology because it crystallizes translucently, making it ideal for formulators interested in creating “shiny pellets with innovative visual effects.” Additionally, it can be used on existing production equipment, adds Beneo.
“Extraordinary colors, as well as added print and sparkle effects are also now possible and will remain visible throughout product shelf life,” according to Beneo.
“The chewing gum market is in need of fresh ideas to re-ignite sales and Beneo’s translucent coating technology now offers fantastic scope for new product innovation,” says Thomas Schmidt, marketing director, Beneo. “For the first time, multi-colored centers can be made visible, leading to new visual possibilities in the market that will create excitement for the consumer and manufacturer alike.”
Beneo’s Isomalt has received an EFSA health claim for its low glycemic and tooth-friendly characteristics, as well as a FDA-approved dental health claim.
